21grams

This artwork classifies items valued as trade commodities, much like currency, according to different eras. These items are placed on a scale and adjusted to weigh 21 grams, the so-called “”weight of the soul,”” based on Duncan MacDougall’s experiment (“”three-quarters of an ounce””).

The experiments of Duncan MacDougall drew attention for the controversial use of poison on dogs. Focusing on this background, materials that are both familiar and evoke a sense of addiction in contemporary society have been packaged. A conceptual art series comprising 18 pieces has been unveiled.
