“When a person dies, it is said that the weight of their soul is 21 grams, which is equivalent to 1,068 grains of rice or eight condoms.

This work packages and adjusts various objects that play an important role in developed societies to match the 21 grams believed to be the weight of the soul, based on Duncan MacDougall’s experiment (‘three-quarters of an ounce’).”

However, despite its significance, Duncan MacDougall’s experiment using dogs was ethically controversial. Similarly, this work focuses on how those who own and distribute these objects in large quantities often behave as if they are omnipotent. Additionally, the selection of objects was made according to different historical periods.

In 2024, due to the effects of war and hoarding, the prices of gasoline and rice have soared in Japan.
Throughout history, the masses have always been at the mercy of “omnipotence.”

And the soul of those responsible for this crisis is also just 21 grams.

本作は、先進国の社会で重要な役割を果たしている物を、魂の重さとされる21グラム（Duncan MacDougallの実験による「three-quarters of an ounce」）に調整し、パッケージ化した作品である

しかし、その重要性とは対照的に、Duncan MacDougallが犬を用いた実験は倫理的に問題視されていた。同様に、本作で扱う物も、多く所有し流通させた人物が、あたかも全能であるかのように振る舞う点に着目し、時代ごとに選定を行った

2024年、戦争や買い占めの影響により、日本では米やガソリンの価格が高騰している。いつの時代も大衆は「全能」に振り回されるばかりだ

そして、この問題を起こしている者の魂もまた21グラムである
