This work, Free Air, centers on the culture of share cycles in Japanese cities and the way people breathe.

When we come across a bicycle with low tire pressure, we unknowingly come into contact with the “breath of a stranger.” The fatigue and busyness left behind by someone who previously used that share cycle remain there—and we, too, continue to live in the city, forgetting how to breathe.

The phrase Free Air carries layered meanings across different disciplines: in geoscience, it refers to gravitational correction; in medicine, it signifies a warning sign of internal abnormality. Both point to invisible discrepancies or signals of urgency.

This piece is an attempt to engage with our own existence by sharing this “lack of air” with an unknown other.

Perhaps it’s not just the tires that are low on air. If we listen closely, we might begin to hear the signs.

本作「Free Air（フリーエア）」は、日本の都市におけるシェアサイクル文化と、人々の呼吸のあり方に着目した作品である

空気圧の低いタイヤに出会ったとき、私たちは気づかぬうちに「見知らぬ誰かの息づかい」に触れている。そのシェアサイクルを使った誰かの忙しさや疲れがそこに残されていて、次にそれを使う私たちもまた、都市の中で呼吸を忘れて生きている

「Free Air」という言葉には、地球科学における重力補正、医療における異常の兆候といった異なる文脈が潜んでいる。それらは、目に見えない「ずれ」や「緊急性」を伝えるサインでもある

この作品は、「空気の足りなさ」を見知らぬ誰かと分かち合いながら、自分自身の存在にも触れていく試みである

空気が足りないのは、タイヤだけではないのかもしれない。耳を澄ませばそのサインが聴こえてくる
